Hi, my name is Jacob Westmeyer. I am 20 years old. I go to Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio where I currently rank as a Junior. I am majoring in Sports Management, in hopes to become a high school athletic director. I'm from a Wauseon, Ohio which is 30 minutes West of Toledo, about an hour East of Indiana and 45 minutes North West of Bowling Green.
My decision to come to Bowling Green wasn't a tough one. I had heard a lot of good things about the Sports Management feild and that it was well respected at BGSU. I also had a friend graduate from Bowling Green with his Batchlors in Science of Education and then went to the University of Conneticut and got his masters degree.
My favorite sports teams are the Dallas Cowboys, Colorado Avalance, and the Toledo Mudhens. My favorite baseball player is Ken Griffey Jr and now that he his retired I don't follow baseball much. My sports interest are action sports, football and hockey. I played football for three years in high school and I have been playing hockey since I was 6 1/2. I just recently started skating vert. I would like to go the X-Games and watch the BMX Flatland portion. If you don't know what Flatland is click on the link and be amazed!

Hi Jacob,
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your Introduction, I see why you are interested in studying more about the X Games. I remember when they first started and a friend of mine was studying how the X Games related to Generation X. He even suggested that ESPN started espn2 as a network that would be devoted to giving the X Games and Xtreme sports greater exposure. It is amazing how they have now become a fixture of the sports landscape. Do you think that the popularity of extreme sports is partially responsible for the decline of interest in baseball among those in your generation? I just wondered because you said you liked the Mudhens, but didn't say that you were a Detroit Tigers fan.
You also mentioned that you would like to become an Athletic Director. Do you have plans to do a practicum or internship related to being an AD?
This is a good start to your blog and I look forward to reading more of your entries.
Dr. Spencer
No, I don't think that this is responsible due to the lack of interest in baseball but because my generation thinks that we are the pioneers of extreme sports. I am not a Detroit Tigers fan because I was raised playing hockey at since the of 6 and only played one year of baseball, which was went I was around 7 or so. I would like to do my Internship relating to being an AD at a major D-1 college.
